The release liner protects the adhesive during coating, conversion, shipping and application. A poor match can create die-cutting problems, premature release, difficult dispensing or adhesive transfer.
Common Liner Decisions
- Glassine, kraft, clay-coated paper or filmic liner
- Basis weight, caliper and stiffness
- One-side or two-side release treatment
- Release level and compatibility with the adhesive
- Transparency, moisture stability and dimensional control
Conversion Requirements
Die cutting, matrix stripping, high-speed dispensing, sheeting and narrow-web conversion place different demands on the liner. The converter should test the complete laminate, not the liner in isolation.
End-Use Requirements
Hand-applied tape may prioritize easy liner removal, while automated labels need stable release at production speed. Curved labels, small die cuts and thin facestocks can make stiffness and release balance more critical.
RFQ Checklist
Send the adhesive type, facestock or backing, coating process, die-cut size, dispensing method, roll dimensions, winding direction, storage conditions and target release behavior.
