Folded Masking Film: Separate Open and Packed Width

Specify folded masking film with separate open width, packed width and usable length, then check a clearly labeled coverage layout before comparing quantities.

Folded Masking Film: Separate Open and Packed Width

Illustration note: The header image is an AI-generated concept illustration. It is not a photograph of Haoxuan’s actual laboratory or evidence of product testing.

For folded masking film, specify the full opened sheet width separately from its folded or packed width. Add the supplied length, packing form and a simple layout of the area to be covered. A compact folded dimension is useful for storage and handling, but it is not the same measurement as the film’s opened coverage.

Haoxuan’s folded plastic sheet masking film listing identifies PE film for painting protection, renovation and furniture covering. It does not provide a universal relationship between folded width and opened width for every offered format. Request the dimensions and fold arrangement of the actual product being quoted rather than deriving them from a photograph.

Give each dimension a different label

Use labels that remain consistent across the inquiry, supplier drawing and quotation. “Open width” should identify the edge-to-edge width when the film is fully unfolded as intended. “Packed width” should identify the width of the folded supply form. “Length” should identify the continuous roll length or the length of each supplied sheet, depending on the offer.

Also distinguish the product’s packed width from the outside dimensions of a carton or other shipping pack. A carton dimension may include packaging and clearance. It should not be copied into a film-dimension field. If the supplier uses different terminology, ask them to mark the corresponding measurements on a drawing.

Request a dimensioned supply-form sketch

Label Measurement Question for the offer
W-open Full film width after unfolding Which outer edges define the stated width?
W-packed Width of the folded film as supplied Does this exclude outer packaging?
L Roll length or individual sheet length Is the offer continuous or pre-cut?
Fold layout Arrangement of folded panels Can the supplier provide a labeled sketch?
Pack contents Rolls or sheets per sales unit Which quantity will the quotation use?

A sketch need not be elaborate to be useful. It should show the folded state and the opened state, use the same units and identify which dimensions belong to the product. Ask for an explanation of any unstated dimension before approving the dimensional basis of the offer.

Do not infer the fold count from a width ratio

Dividing an opened width by a packed width can produce a number that looks like a fold count. That arithmetic does not establish the actual fold pattern, panel overlap or how the product opens. Ask the supplier to identify the construction directly. An unlabeled ratio is a weak substitute for a drawing.

Likewise, do not infer film thickness from the thickness of the folded package. The package may contain multiple layers and other material. Request the film thickness and how it is specified for the exact construction. Keep that field separate from the stacked or rolled supply dimensions.

Map the protected surface before estimating quantities

Record the surface dimensions and which areas must remain exposed. For furniture or an irregular object, include the intended coverage route over the shape rather than relying only on its top-view footprint. Any allowance for overlaps, edges, fixtures or handling should come from the project’s actual plan and appropriate review.

Film area alone does not establish whether a layout will work. Two pieces with equal area can have very different shapes. A wide, short piece cannot necessarily replace a narrow, long piece without introducing joins. Record proposed joins and any unresolved edge treatment in the layout before estimating a purchase quantity.

Work through an illustrative coverage comparison

Suppose a buyer is considering an illustrative opened width of 2.0 m and a continuous length of 25 m. The nominal rectangular area is 2.0 × 25 = 50 square metres. Suppose the folded width is 0.5 m. Using that folded width in the area calculation would give 12.5 square metres and would describe the wrong geometry.

These numbers are hypothetical, not Haoxuan product dimensions. The 50-square-metre calculation also does not establish usable project coverage. Offcuts, required overlaps, inaccessible shapes and other project-specific factors can reduce the amount available for the planned layout. State those factors rather than adding an unexplained universal waste percentage.

If the plan calls for five separate 4 m lengths at the full 2.0 m opened width, the nominal length requirement is 20 m. A 25 m roll leaves 5 m of nominal length before accounting for the actual cutting and handling plan. This arithmetic helps compare the layout with a quoted length; it is not a promise about a supplier’s usable-length tolerance.

Keep film supply separate from edge attachment

Confirm whether the offer is film alone or includes an attached tape edge or another feature. A product category used for masking does not automatically establish an adhesive construction. If an attachment method is needed, define it separately with the supplier and responsible application reviewer.

Do not assume that coverage geometry establishes surface compatibility, paint-process suitability, a removal window or a secure walking surface. Those questions require the exact materials, site conditions and relevant safety procedures. The temporary surface protection selection guide addresses broader application questions; the dimensional record here does not replace that review.

Review a sample against the labeled dimensions

If a sample is supplied on agreed terms, identify its reference and compare the offered dimensions with what the review can establish. Record whether it represents the final supply form or only the film material. A small material sample cannot independently verify a full roll’s length or complete pack contents.

Keep the approved drawing and any unresolved tolerances with the quotation. When a supplier proposes a revised opened width, packed width or packing form, identify which layout and storage assumptions need review. Do not silently retain an earlier coverage calculation after its inputs change.

Send the dimensions and layout together

Request a folded masking-film quotation from Haoxuan with W-open, W-packed, length, requested supply form and a labeled coverage sketch. Add the intended surface, process, quantity and destination, and ask the supplier to identify any field that differs in the proposed offer. A shared set of labels makes both the quotation and later receiving check more precise.
